Block Out Poetry
Political Cartoons
The two things you should never discuss played an important role in the 8th grade project. Politics and religion were heavy topics discussed due to the points of view of the upcoming candidates. Students choose a candidate they were against because of something they said. An actual quote from a reputable source was needed. The students then drew the candidate portraying them and the quote. Students also researched the opposing candidates view on that particular topic. A written comparison was made. Students were also able to see the role that media plays in the election and that some stations are biased towards certain candidates.
Pop Art PrintsUsing a photo students recreated their portrait onto styrofoam squares. Certain sections were pressed down to create a positive and negative area. The styrofoam was then inked and printed onto colored paper.
